The
Board of Directors for Hawthorn Park had their regular
monthly meeting on
June 24, 2004. Here are the topics and
highlights of the meeting. Reminder: All association
members are invited to attend these regular Board meetings.
Please note:
These are not the official meeting minutes.
The financials
were reviewed and discussed briefly. Bill Smith, Board
President, will set up a working session before the next regular
meeting for the purpose of discussing common area maintenance (trees,
etc.) and how to handle these expenses in the budget. Also, George
Sinclair has been busy generating revenue from local businesses for
advertisements in the Hawthorn Herald and the Hawthorn Park
Directory. $200 in checks was turned over to Jerry
Lemerise, Harmony Management. Total in ad revenue this year
is about $400. The ads are also included on this web page: Click here to see businesses
supporting Hawthorn Park.
Items of note this month:
- The Architectural Review Committee (ARC) approved Jim
Wagner’s proposed exterior paint colors (1205 92nd St.
NW).
-
Please welcome Andrew and Michelle Jones
(1123 91st St. NW) and Vitale and Kimberly Grinberg
(1102 91st St. NW) to the neighborhood.
New business:
- The Community Picnic is coming on October 10, 2004
. Planning has already begun and volunteers are needed, as
follows:
- Peg Mazza will lead the food and beverage committee.
Please call Peg to help out.
- Len Lesjak and Fred Baumgratz will lead the cooking
committee. Please call Len or Fred to help out.
- Art Stadlin will lead the set-up and clean-up
committee. Please call Art to help out.
- The Hawthorn Park web site is going strong. Bill
Smith is giving each new homeowner a small card with the web site
address on it. Mike Hogan suggested that an announcement
of the URL be included in everyone’s mid-year homeowner association
bill from Harmony Management. Art Stadlin agreed to make
up a stuffer sheet and Jerry Lemerise will make it happen at
Harmony Management. The goal is to get as many residents
connected as possible for e-mail alerts and updates.
- As reported last month, the Manatee County Matching Funds
Project Proposal for landscaping and lighting in Hawthorn Park was
submitted prior to the deadline. Vince Meli expects the
County to vote on the project late July.
- There are several new
housing developments going in on 17th Ave.
NW. Although these developments are not right next door, they may
have some impact on our water, traffic, noise, or other concerns.
Bill Smith, Board President, mentioned that he is notified
of planning meetings and hearings for these new developments. If
you are interested in attending these hearings, please contact Bill.
- A discussion was
held about the condition of some of the lawns and flower beds
in the community. In some instances, standards are not being
maintained. One homeowner has received a warning letter from
Harmony Management. The Board will consider what actions may be
needed to remind homeowners of their obligation to maintain landscaping.
- A recommendation
that the street signs be repainted will be taken under
advisement.
- The swing set put on Hawthorn Park common area by a
Fiddler’s
Green resident has been removed.
- The construction
just north of Manatee Ave. on 75th St. NW is part of the
long awaited reclaimed water project, which is very good news
for Hawthorn Park!
- A lengthy
discussion took place about the low level of water in the retention
ponds and the ownership of the pump that controls the water level
in the large pond at the entrance. Carol Heckman asked
about the condition of the pump and if the pond could be
refilled. Jerry Lemerise agreed to research the
transition documents regarding the ownership of the pump.
- Jeanine Balsis thanked Carol Heckman for
hosting the Ladies Tea, Peg Mazza for organizing and planning
the tea, to Kathy Lesjak and Art Stadlin for the
fantastic photos on the web page. Click
